Online Games Groom Future Business Leaders
IBM claims that online video games are helping to groom future
business leaders, teaching them the core skills needed to successfully
lead a team. Closely-knit teams working on long-term strategy
in close quarters will be replaced by virtual teams that constantly
reinvent the business in multiple time zones the world over,
according to the report. The research suggests that online games,
specifically massively multiplayer online role playing games,
train leaders to deal with the motivational, emotional and social
needs of their fellows. IBM partnered with Seriosity, a software
company that develops enterprise products and services based
on online games, together with researchers from Stanford University
and MIT.

Yahoo Puts The Squeeze On Data
"The next improvements to search marketing could come from
Yahoo Research, where scientists look for all the meanings to
be found in data. We will be very cross with Yahoo Research
if their peek into the meanings contained in data end up blanking
the stars, one by one. Especially if it means missing out on
'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.'The task that scientists
Deepak Agarwal, Srujana Merugu and Deepayan Chakrabarti have
set upon looks a little like what the monks in Clarke's story
hoped to accomplish. Through the use of statistical learning
methods and models, they will try to figure out the answers
to some extremely open questions.
What are the most appropriate advertisements to maximize click-through
rates on a particular web page? What are the most relevant search
results for a particular query? These questions may seem simple
enough, but coming up with the perfect answer is a problem of
staggering proportions. Why? Because the data is often high
dimensional, too sparse or too noisy to make intelligent decisions.
The scientists are on their way to sieving the smallest bits
of information from the data they analyze. They created a "lightweight
tool" (hopefully not dubbed Mark V) to do this for Yahoo's
myriad departments. For paid search advertising, it could mean
predicting click-throughs for a given ad on a certain page.
By looking at as much detail as it can about past actions, those
forward-looking predictions could be prophetic.Advertising effectiveness,
distilled into lines of code. We think there could be a market
for that in the future. Just leave the stars alone. |

Finding the best Web Design services for your business.
It should come as no surprise that nowadays every company has
its own website. The purpose of having your own website is telling
the world about your business and giving your clients easier
access to your services. Here at Network Strategies we offer
the best in Miami Web Design services and are committed to providing
top quality web sites for our clients. We understand how important
an efficient web site is, especially if you're discussing e-commerce
web sites which can deal with several millions of dollars in
transactions each month. Our company brings you only the finest
in Miami E-commerce web design, custom made to serve your needs.
In order for everyone to be able to see your web site you need
a so-called address or domain name. Domain names for the United
States usually take a form such as 'www.companyname.com'. You
will need to pay to register your domain and further on, pay
to renew it. Once you've registered your domain and found a
service provider to host it, you'll need to have the actual
web site. Web design requires a lot of skill and an eye for
details, as a web design professional has to work with color,
text, images, movement, video and sound altogether. The result
of the design process must be aesthetic as well as functional.
The designer has to be attentive, creative and professional.
Once your web site is completed, make sure to have a company
deal with all of the maintenance problems. Network Strategies
understands the importance of a good design and is proud to
offer cutting-edge Miami Web Design services.
The web design process is complex and is generally made up of
several steps. The first phase is the initial consultation which
consists in a discussion with the designer. It's important to
communicate your expectations from the very first moment and
ask for a professional opinion. Next, you will need to supply
your designer or design team with artwork for the web site,
such as company logos and images. After having a clear image
of your requirements, the designer will prepare the interface
design based on your instructions. Afterwards, the web site
will be developed page by page, the content will be added and
you will provide the designer with your final feedback. In the
last stage, the final product will be loaded onto a server.
Although the process doesn't seem complicated at a first glance,
each one of the stages requires a great deal of hard work and
expertise.

Action Network - Website Marketing
Web-sites are very much a secondary marketing tool. They will
not bring in business unless people know where to find you,
or more accurately, your website. There are two main methods
to promote your website, these being what I will refer to as
'mainstream', or conventional press/literature and search engine
optimisation (or SEO for short).
Mainstream promotion of your website involves nothing more than
ensuring that your site address (URL) is published on all of
your company literature (letterheads/invoices/statements etc)
and on any vehicle livery. This is a step that is often overlooked
by on line marketing consultants (after all we all know it is
cheaper to maintain an existing customer than to find new customers).
Search Engine Optimisation is a growing business area and there
are all too many people willing to sell services and advice
that will not boost your rankings. They may offer number one
position etc, however in my experience, people know what they
are looking for and will look through the first two or three
pages of results until they find the product/service they require.Marketing
your own site on the Internet is relatively easy, although it
can take up to 60 days to start showing results. The first step
is to make sure that you have as many relevant sites linking
to your site as possible. Obtaining links can usually be achieved
by emailing the web master of any sites where you think visitors
may also find your site useful. The email address of these people
is usually postmaster@url.com, where url.com is the address
of the site. Of course, the higher the profile of the site,
the better...
Avoid getting your site listed on 'directories'. Most search
engines now 'black list' directories and penalise sites that
are listed there.
Make sure your site has as many internal links as possible,
that is visitors can get from any one page to another with as
few clicks as possible (preferably two). This can affect what
is referred to as the 'page rank'. Ask your web designer for
more information.Do not worry about submitting your site to
search engines, if you have links from other sites, their 'spiders'
will find you as they crawl links from other sites.Where possible,
subscribe to on-line forums and ensure that you include a link
to your site in any posts that you make. Of course ensure that
your posts are relevant to your line of business.Although they
may be regarded as outdated, ensure your web designer has included
key word and description tags on every page. |

- UK shifting into IT skills
Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates has launched an initiative
to tackle an Information Technology skills shortage in the UK,
with an estimated 600,000 Internet-related jobs needing to be
filled by 2002.
Speaking via satellite from the USA, he told the Institute of
Directors annual conference that businesses were facing a huge
challenge in finding skilled IT professionals.
"In many cases, this is holding them back from putting
IT at the heart of their business strategy," he said.

Tapping
the non-IT workers
"However, there are untapped resources throughout
the country which employers are missing - all those currently
not working in IT. With the right IT skills, training and development,
these people can prosper in an IT career."
The Microsoft boss said UK companies needed to be open to new
ways of filling vacancies by providing opportunities for new
entrants with limited experience and training.
Microsoft launched a special Website and a marketing campaign
on Wednesday aimed at attracting recruits to the IT industry.
A similar site in the US attracted eight million unique visitors
in the past year to one section called "Is IT right for
me?" |

'exposes' tobacco firms
"A website which claims to expose the marketing
practices of the tobacco industry has gone online. The database
- www.tobaccopapers.com - includes 14,000 pages of evidence
which have been described as damning by health campaigners.
The website has been constructed by the Centre for Tobacco Control
Research at Strathclyde University.
The papers were used to help develop a Cancer Research advertising
campaign about the health risks of smoking. The evidence was
originally submitted for public review to the House of Commons'
health select committee. The committee demanded that the tobacco
industry's top five UK advertising agencies release relevant
internal documentation relating to their advertising and marketing
activities on tobacco accounts. Professor Gerard Hastings, director
of the Cancer Research UK Centre for Tobacco Control Research,
said the evidence was unique in Europe. |
