How your business website is designed, laid out, what images, fonts, and colours you use (or do not use) could define the difference between great success (high conversion and low exit) and bitter failure (low sales and high exit and bounce rates). Such elements will also greatly affect your branding and the overall appeal of your business. So, check out these helpful web design tips:

Logo

It’s important to have a polished and professional-looking logo that is linked to your homepage. It’s an essential element of your brand, so see to it that it is located distinctly on your business website. A high-resolution image should be used for the logo and it should be placed on the upper left corner of every page of your site.

Navigation

Main navigation options are normally placed in a horizontal menu bar, across the top of a website. Put secondary navigation options just underneath the main navigation bar, or in the side bar (the left-hand margin of the website). Make sure your navigation is intuitive. This is very important, as confusing layouts for navigating the site tend to make people quit a page in a matter of seconds.

So avoid putting links to less significant pages — which detract from your main information or call to action — at the top of your landing pages or home page. Instead, put less significant pieces of information or links in the footer at the bottom of a web page.

Clutter

The days, it is very easy to be visually overloaded with various images. This can reach a point where the brain ceases to process information when it comes across too many options.

To keep online surfers on your website, see to it that your pages don’t have any competing call to action or any visual clutter, such as too many animated gifs, photographs, or graphics. These elements could draw their eyes away from the most vital parts of a web page. Also, consider minimizing links and options both in the footer and the header, to further narrow the focus. And keep your paragraphs short and simple. One paragraph must be 5 to 6 lines.

Breathing Space

Create enough room between images and paragraphs, so your visitors have some space to “breathe.” This way, they’ll be more able to absorb all of your website’s important features and what your business has to offer. Controlling the white space throughout your site will help keep visitors focused on your site’s content, as well as increase returns. Keep in mind that less is more.
